Most Valuable Students
ABOUT THE MOST VALUABLE STUDENT AWARD Buffalo Wild Wings is the sponsor of this Most Valuable Student award. Principals from each high school, along with The Marion Star and The Ohio State University at Marion representatives, chose the monthly winners and the two winners for the year from those students.
Plaques are presented to winners courtesy Sway's Trophy House, and The Marion Star is a program partner.

Sanjana Awasty, senior, Pleasant; Kelsi Lauer, senior, Elgin; Ben McKinniss, senior, Elgin; Tyler Haile, senior, Ridgedale; Kayla Mohr, senior, Elgin; Lauren Verity, senior, Pleasant; Bryce Adams, senior, Elgin; Samantha Blanton, senior, Tri-Rivers; Gene Rucker, senior, Marion Harding; Casey Slane, senior, Marion Harding; Megan Doty, senior, Marion Catholic; Travis Jackson, Tri-Rivers; and Bailey Higgins, senior, River Valley.
MARION - Desiree Conley's father, Randy, was quick to thank others after his daughter received a Most Valuable Student of the Year award on Friday.
His daughter, a River Valley senior, and Ben McKinniss, an Elgin senior, were recognized at a teen honors banquet hosted by The Marion Star at the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Most Valuable Student program, sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings, emphasizes volunteerism in the school and community and school spirit that sets a good example for others.
Both Desiree and Ben were nominated because of how they go out of their way to help others. Randy Conley, and Desiree's mother, Libby, credit a lot of people for helping to instill that quality in their daughter.
"It took a community to raise this child," he said, listing Teen Institute, FFA, cheerleading, staff at River Valley and members and leaders at Abundant Life Assembly of God. "There have been a lot of people in her life."
Students eligible for the award are in grades 9-12 from all seven Marion County School districts. A boy and girl are nominated by each school each month based on academic and extracurricular activities within their school and community.

The “TR Trivia Kings” are the champions of the Marion Evening Lions Second Annual Trivia Challenge held Sunday, April 10 at BW3 in Marion. The staff team included: John Seibel, math/science instructor; Randy Winland, director for Student Services; Jim Longo, social studies instructor; and Jon Crothers, math instructor. The TRCC team defeated 9 other teams by a margin of 9 points (out of 60 total) to bring home the championship. Awesome job team!!!
